When You Thought I Wasn’t Looking!

Next week we celebrate Mother’s Day.  A day set apart to celebrate and thank those special ladies in our lives that taught us so much, even when they didn’t know they were teaching.  I can personally speak of countless things that I learned from my mother, that I didn’t learn in times that she was necessarily trying to “teach” me something.  So next week as we celebrate Mother’s Day, make sure that if you have the opportunity to, that you thank that special mother in your life, for all the things that she has taught and done for you.

This past week, while browsing through some websites, I stumbled across the following poem by an anonymous author.  It was in fact titled, When You Thought I Wasn’t Looking.  It was about all the things that our mother’s taught us by simply being an excellent example.  And here’s what it said…

When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator,
and I wanted to paint another one.
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you feed a stray cat,
and I thought it was good to be kind to animals.
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you make my favorite cake for me,
and I knew that little things are special things.
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I heard you say a prayer,
and I believed there is a God I could always talk to.
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I felt you kiss me goodnight,
and I felt loved.
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw tears come from your eyes,
and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it’s all right to cry.
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw that you cared,
and I wanted to be everything that I could be.
When you thought I wasn’t looking, I looked…
and wanted to say thanks for all the things I saw,
when you thought I wasn’t looking.

Here’s to a Happy Mother’s Day to all those women who have taught us so much over the years, even when you thought we weren’t looking.

In Christ,

Josh
