“2013: The Year Of Resolutions.” The challenge is to end the year in a better place than we are today. Unlike most years with one big resolution, we have a 12 step program to help us get there. And here we are, over half way done. But what is it that we have tried to do.
January – Pray More February – Read More March – Give More
April – Attend More May – Get More Involved June – Share Our Faith More
July – Call On Others More
As we come to the month of August, what shall be our challenge? Just this past week, we had our missionaries from Central Brazil here to share with us the work that they are doing far off. But what about the work that needs to be done right here in Sciotoville, and Wheelersburg, and Portsmouth, and Minford, and South Webster? Who is going to do the work there? Why not you?
In Isaiah 6:8 we read, “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”” For the month of August, my challenge to you is to invite more people to church. When was the last time that you actually invited someone to come to the Sciotoville Christian Church?
Just last week, I challenged you to pray that God would give you open doors, opportunities to share your faith with someone. Now, whether you prayed that prayer or not, I prayed that prayer for you. I prayed that God would lead each of you to someone that you could share your faith with. And this week, I pray that you will all step up to the plate, boldly share your faith, and use the opportunities, those open doors to invite people to come and worship and get to know God with us here at Third and Bloom.
I don’t know if you know it or not, but the great commission gave us ALL a job to do. We have all been called to share our faith, and to invite others into a relationship with God. We are told in Matthew chapter 28, “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in Heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.””
We all have that commission to answer. And it’s as if God is up in Heaven right now saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us? Who will take my message to Sciotoville, and Wheelersburg, and Portsmouth, and Minford, and South Webster? Who will invite those outside of me to come in? Who?”
As you think about that, can you have the passion and the courage to say, “Here am I. Send me!”
Here’s to “2013: The Year Of Resolutions!”
