A New Vision: Gather, Grow, & Glorify!

After giving it some thought, I have decided that we all need a new mission statement, or vision statement here at the church.  The one we currently have, though wordy, it great.  But I want something that we can all know, and live.

So, allow me to give you a new vision statement for the Sciotoville Christian Church.  Our new vision is 3 fold: we exist to gather, grow, and glorify.  You see, a good mission statement is short enough for everyone to remember, gather, grow, and glorify.  Yet it still makes a powerful statement about our church.  Take a look at those 3 simple words.

Gather.  We come together to worship and praise God as a body of fellow believers.  Hebrews 10:24-25 tells us, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the day approaching.”

Grow.  We nurture people to commit to a closer walk with the Lord.  In this, we want see growth spiritually as well as numerically.  Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus says, “All authority in Heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surly I am with your always, to the very end of the age.”  Teaching them is the personal spiritual growth, and making new disciples is the numerical growth.

And finally, glorify.  We proclaim and lift up Jesus in all that we say and do, so that the lost may see and find Him.  Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”  And in I Corinthians 10:31 it says, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

Again, a good mission statement is short enough for everyone to remember, yet it makes a powerful statement about our church.  The Sciotoville Christian Church exists to gather, grow, and glorify.

In Christ,

Josh
